I had my doubts that a virtual Piliates session would actually provide the same benefits as a face to face session with Beth in Beth’s fab studio. How wrong was I?!

“Having issues with my back, shoulder and hip and wanting to generally improve my fitness, strength and toning, I had been considering Pilates for a while – but making excuses not to do it! I’ve tried Pilates in the past but had bad experiences so avoided it.

“I was experiencing back pain and the doctor had told me to do Pilates, but I was nervous about going to classes and not getting the moves right and hurting myself…and scared about being the “worst’ in class! 1:1 is intense, so I was hoping I’d get on well with Beth from a chemistry perspective – and I did! Beth has a thoughtful style and made me feel 100% comfortable. She took time to understand my needs and inspired me with her own Pilates journey. “I had been experiencing a sore upper back and neck on a regular basis for a while, mainly due to bad posture at work, and was desperate to do something to improve my well-being. I was already familiar with Pilates and its potential benefits, but had had mixed experiences with teachers, and in recent years had struggled to find a studio Pilates teacher I could truly engage with.
As I already knew Beth in a different context I did not have any reservations about working with her on a personal level, although I did slightly worry about any awkwardness that might ensue if her teaching style did not suit me. I needn’t have worried! I really enjoyed working with Beth, as she found the perfect balance between targeting the areas I needed help with and challenging me to push myself further and improve my practice. “I see pilates as a way of having a massage without the hands on. I needed some headspace and doing pilates does that for me. The physical aspect of pilates is secondary to the mindfulness of doing pilates for me.
I have been practising pilates for 17 years, and already had my favourite teachers, Beth was being compared to teachers I have loved and practised with for years. Additionally I had only done matwork classes in the past so the machines were all new to me.
Beth lived up to the comparison of my previous teachers. I need a session each week, it isn’t a want. I have a fairly active life and Beth keeps me going, both physically and mentally. She gauges what I am feeling from the moment I walk through the door and the lesson is tailored for me, they can be challenging, relaxing, stretching depending on my needs at that moment. “Before the Taster with Beth I had only taken one pilates class before, so I had an idea of how helpful it could be for my scoliosis. Other than that I took few yoga classes and exercises but it was never continuous, which was the problem. I had no reservations about working with Beth, I was searching for a one to one pilates session as I believed that I needed specific help, and when I saw her website it felt right. Also, the fact that the studio was so near my own home, made everything even better. She really listened to my problems and why I needed individual sessions, I felt understood, and safe.
